Tour Highlights

This epic tour included the 2 very best Windsurf spots in northern Brazil and a unique adventure to the far North. This is just a sample itinerary, which can be tailored to your specific requirements and trimmed down if needed.

Days 1 - 5

4* Makena Hotel

Breakfast

Around 3 hours from Fortaleza Airport (or 90 minutes from Jei) is Icaraizinho. This is a very special part of Northern Brazil, offering a tranquil and charming location with some amazing windsurfing conditions for all levels. The name icaraizinho refers to a small beach fishing town consisting of a handful of restaurants, shops and basic amenities. The beach here is stunning and very wide. We think that a windsurfing holiday to Icaraizinho is best done for around 3-5 days in combination with other parts of this stunning and huge coastline. A longer duration may work well if you are considering a very relaxing romantic break with a non-windsurfing partner or family.

Days 5 - 10

5* Prea Boutique Hotel

Breakfast

Heading North now to Prea, next door to the famous Jericoacoara (Jeri) windsurf beach. Although Jeri is amazing for the sport, it is better to stay in Prea for the quality of properties, food and less commercial feel.

The flat water near the shore is better for beginners, while more experienced windsurfers venture further out to ride the waves. The coastline, framed by golden dunes and vibrant sunsets, adds to the beauty of the experience. Jericoacoara also offers 2 great windsurf schools for equipment rental and lessons.

Prea

Days 10 - 12

5* Camocim Luxury Beach Escape (Baia das Caraubas)

Breakfast

Now, the real adventure further North starts. The first stop will be the small town of Camocim, around 4 4-hour drive from Jeri. The journey here will take you by 4x4 along the beach, crossing rivers and estuaries as you go, finally arriving by a short ferry ride.

The town is set along the scenic Camocim River and features a historic centre with colonial architecture, colourful houses, and a laid-back atmosphere. Camocim’s main beach, Praia das Barreiras, offers calm waters for swimming, while other beaches, like Tatajuba and Guriú, are known for their pristine sand dunes and crystal-clear lagoons. These spots are perfect for activities like kite surfing, dune buggy rides, and kayaking.

Camocim

The town of Camocim in a remote part of Northern Brazil is an incredible destination if you want to escape the better-known busier kitesurf spots further South and experience a really authentic Brazil. The coastline here is huge and wild, backed by stunning sand dunes. The town of Camocim is an authentic working Brazilian small town, but with some interesting old buildings and history.

There are really two options when staying in this area.

Camocim Town -  If you want to really experience the atmosphere and culture you can stay in a stunning old house, that has been beautifully restored, and then be taken 15 minutes by beach buggy to the kite or windsurf beach.

Maceio Beach - You can stay at the beach North of the town (that includes Maceio Beach) so you can kitesurf directly from your accommodation. Here you can choose between being in the heart of Maceio Beach with many beach restaurants, or in a luxury retreat in a secluded spot. In this area, you have both very flat water (perfect for learning or improving), or some really easy small waves at high tide

Days 12 - 14

4* Casa de Santo Antonio

Breakfast

From Camocim, your next stop is the wild Parnaíba Delta, around 4 hours by 4x4. Also known as the Delta do Parnaíba, it is one of Brazil’s most unique and breathtaking natural wonders, located where the Parnaíba River meets the Atlantic Ocean. It spans across the border of the states of Piauí and Maranhão and is one of only a few open-sea river deltas in the world, making it a rare phenomenon outside of places like the Nile and the Mekong Deltas. Covering an area of around 2,700 square kilometers, this sprawling delta consists of more than 70 islands, freshwater lagoons, lush mangroves, and golden sand dunes, creating a diverse and captivating landscape.

The delta is divided into five arms, with Canárias Island being the largest and most well-known for its natural beauty and wildlife. The mangrove forests and islands within the delta are home to a rich array of biodiversity, including caimans, capybaras, and countless bird species such as herons, scarlet ibises, and parrots. Visitors might also spot monkeys, sea turtles, and even dolphins near the river mouth.

Parnaíba Delta is perfect for eco-tourism and adventure activities. Travellers can enjoy boat tours through the mangrove channels, explore dune-filled islands like Ilha das Canárias, swim in the freshwater lagoons, and spot wildlife. Sunset tours are especially popular, offering breathtaking views as the sun sets over the delta, casting golden hues over the water and sand.

This natural reserve is a lesser-known gem compared to other Brazilian destinations, allowing for a more tranquil experience amidst untouched landscapes and vibrant ecosystems.

The Parnaiba Delta Reserve

In the heart of the "Rota das Emoções" the Parnaíba River Delta is an ecological sanctuary of enormous natural beauty. It is the only delta in the Americas that flows into the open sea and is the third largest in the world. Its branches form an archipelago with over 75 islands, dunes, freshwater lagoons and a lush tropical forest where crocodiles, gibbons, capybaras, monkeys and birds of rare natural beauty can still be found. It is here that at sunset, we watch the unforgettable Flight of the Guarás every day.

Days 14 - 18

5* Luxury Hotel Atins

Breakfast

Your final destination is Atins, around another 6 hours by 4x4, including river crossings, and finally arriving by speed boat. Atins is a tranquil, off-the-beaten-path village located on the edge of Brazil's famous Lençóis Maranhenses National Park in the state of Maranhão. Known for its serene beaches, endless dunes, and easy access to the park’s vast sand and freshwater lagoon landscapes, Atins is a haven for nature lovers, adventure seekers, and those looking for a peaceful escape.

With a laid-back vibe, Atins offers a unique mix of natural beauty and small-town charm. The village has sandy streets, simple, rustic buildings, and a few pousadas (guesthouses) and restaurants. Because of its remote location, Atins has maintained a low-key atmosphere, with limited cell service and Wi-Fi, making it ideal for digital detox and relaxation.

Atins is also a top destination for kitesurfing due to the consistent and strong winds that blow across its expansive beaches from July to January. The area around the village offers both flat and wavy water conditions, appealing to both beginners and advanced kitesurfers.

Beyond the beach, Atins is a gateway to the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, famous for its vast white-sand dunes dotted with rainwater lagoons that form a surreal desert oasis. Many visitors take 4x4 tours or guided hikes into the park, where they can explore these stunning lagoons, swim in crystal-clear waters, and enjoy the panoramic views.

Atins is a truly unique spot where travellers can immerse themselves in untouched nature, breathtaking landscapes, and the simple beauty of Brazil's northeastern coast.
