One of the most stunning features of this island is its diverse topography from Maui’s stunning beaches to lush waterfall laced forests, mountainous regions and open scrublands.
We highly recommend including some time during a holiday to Maui to explore some of the other islands of Hawaii which all have something unique and special to offer. Planet Travel specialise in tailor made tours so please ask for advice on a tailored itinerary when calling.
A Maui windsurf holiday is best suited to couples or families with older children; this would also make for a perfect honeymoon destination.
Maui Windsurf Spots
- Ho’okipa beach, where the best windsurfers of the world meets the rocks and the terrifying rips, an overcrowded spot where an advanced level is essential.
- Spreckelsville beach is the best spot for jumping, improve your skills and practice new tricks; easy going waves without rocks to be worrying about.
- Kanaha beach; the biggest spot in Maui, it offers a wide variety conditions; beginners take their lessons next to the shore, and upper level windsurfers venture into open sea to enjoy of freestyle, riding and blasting. Kanaha have something for everyone.
Windsurf Information
All these venues are “starboard tack” (the wind blows from the right, like in the south of the U.K.); there are consistent trade winds all year round and warm waters that will allow you to sail in shorts, so you don’t need to bring your wetsuit.
It’s important to know that it’s forbidden to windsurf before 11:00 a.m. in the whole island, because early hours of the day are reserved for the swimmers, divers and windsurf beginners (who will take their lessons between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.)
The Lifeguards are tru experts about the sailing conditions of each spot, so it will be a good idea to ask them for advice before launching, they will be monitoring the beaches from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Activities In Maui
There’s also a wide range of activities that non-windsurfers can enjoy, Kitesurfing, SUP, SUP Yoga, snorkeling, hiking, helicopter tours, horseback riding, canoe, golf, driving scenic island roads…There are also a lot of family-friendly places; like charming Baby Beach in the north shore; and all kind of restaurants and shops. And if you want to be amazed by the rest of the Hawaiian Islands you only have to take one short flight and let your mind fly.
